About Marc and Susan's trip to Hamburg and Berlin where Marc's play, "A Journey to Kreisau," had its international premiere. The play in Hamburg (on March 7) was part of an array of events in Hamburg and Berlin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of German resistance leader Helmuth James von Moltke.

The January/February, 2005 issue of the magazine B'nai B'rith Today, features an article about Marc P. Smith's new play as its cover story on the regional editions of this magazine across the country. In the story written by Rachel Rosenblit, Marc is quoted regarding his own childhood in Worcester in the late 1930s and early 1940s: "I would always sit and listen to the stories about the refuges. I had relatives in Europe - Lithuania and Latvia - and we were following what was happening with them. I grew up very politically aware."

German couple's letters inspire playwright's 'Journey'

The Boston Globe carried a January 21th story on "Journey to Kreisau" with reporter Catherine Foster noting that Marc spent at least a year in researching and then four months writing this play which is closer to docudrama than a conventional play. She also mentioned one Boston connection to the von Moltkes - the fact that Helmuth James' parents were Christian Scientists and spent time in Boston helping translate Mary Baker Eddy's textbook into German.

In Worcester Magazine, the January 20, 2005 issue describes the interaction between Marc as playwright/director and his ensemble cast of five actors as they begin the first rehearsal for this trio of staged readings to occur in late January and mid-February. Reporter Brian Goslow writes of both the historical context of "Journey to Kreisau" and the structure of the rehearsal for the staged-reading.
